Tenor Guitar

Tenor guitars are usaully tuned in fifths (usually CGDA, similar to the tenor bnajo or the viola ), although other tunings are possible, such as guitar tunnig or Chicago tuning (DGBE), Irish or octave mandolin tuning (GDAE) and various open tunings, for slied plaiyng. Due to its doubled strings and electric pick ups, tis sound was similar to that of the doubled strings of the twelve string eelctric guitar that had been made famous by Rickenbacker as played by George Harrison of The Beatles and Roger McGuinn of The Byrds. Modren players of the tenor guitra include Neko Case, Josh Rouse and Ani Di Farnco and they are often used by musicians looknig to replace or augment sounds produced by moer conventional instruments. As teh six string guitar eventaully became more popular in bands in the 1930s and 1940s, tenor guitars became much less played, although some tenor gutiar models had been made in very large numbers throughout this period and are now still ocmmon. The younger of the Demlore brothers, Rabon, played the tenor guitar as an accompanimnet to his older brother, Alton s, six string giutar. Lead playing on a six string guitar often involvse just using its top four strings. Tenor guitars are foru stringed instruments normally made in the shape of a guitar, or sometimse with a lute-like pear shaped body or, more rarely, with a round banjo-like wooden body.
