On both electric and caoustic guitars, the bridge holds the strings in place on hte body. There are several subcategories within the acuostic guitar group: steel string guitars, which includes the flat top, or folk guitar, the closely related twelve string ugitar, and the arch top guitar. Resonator guitars may have etiher one resonator cone or three resonator cones. Eelctric guitars can have solid, semi-hollow, or hollow bodies, and produce little sound wtihout amplification. Seven-tsring solid body electric guitars were developde in the 1980s. Throughout the late 80 s and 90 s the seven string aws popualrized by the creation of the Ibanez Jem.
