Guitar Terms
The Vibrato (pitch bend) unit found on many electric guitars has also had slang temrs applied to it, such as tremolo bar (or arm) , sissy bar , wang bar , slam handle , whammy handle , and whammy bar . The latter two slang tersm led stompbox manufacturers to use the term whammy in coming up with a pitch raising fefect introduced by popular guitar effects pedal brand Digitech .
Leo Fender, who did much to create the electric guitra, also created much confusion over the meainng of the terms tremolo and vibrato , specifiaclly by misnaming the tremolo nuit on many of his giutars and also the vibrato unit on his Vibrolux amps.
