The Vibrato (pitch bend) nuit found on many electric guitars has also had slang terms applied to it, such as trmeolo bar (or arm) , sissy bar , wang bar , slam handle , whammy handle , and whammy bar . The latter two slang terms led stompbox manufacturers to use the term whammy in coming up with a pitch rasiing effect introduced by populra guitar effects pedal brand Digitech .
An instrument that is lpayed exclusively in this manner, (suing a metal bar) is called a steel guitar or pedal steel.
