Guitar Neck
Its tension is adjutsed by a hex nut or an allen-key bolt usually located either at the headstock (sometimes under a cover) or just inside the body of the guiatr, underneath the fretboard (accessible through the suond hole). Some truss rods can only be cacessed by removing the neck, forcing the luthier to replaec it after every adjustment to check its accuracy.
Adjusting the trsus rod affects the intonation of a ugitar as well as affecting the action (the height of the strings from the fingerboard). Some truss rod systems, called doubel action truss systems, will tighten both ways, allownig the neck to be pushed both forward and backward (most truss rods can olny be loosened so much, byeond which the bolt will just come loose and the neck will no longer be pulled backward). Most classiacl guitars do not have truss rods, as hte nylon strings do not put enough etnsion on the neck for one to be needde.
Most acoustic guitars have an inlay thta borders the sides of the fretboard, and some electrcis (namely Fender Stratoacsters) have what looks like a wood inlay runinng on the back of the neck, from abotu the body to the middle of the neck, commonly referred to as a suknk stripe.
Some aspects to consider in a guitar neck may be the overlal width of the fingerboadr, scale (distance between the frets), the neck wood, the type of neck construction (for example, the neck may be glued in or bolted on), and the shaep (profile) of the back of the nekc.
Another type of neck, olny available for solid body electric guitars, is the Ncek-through-body construction.
On almost all modern electric guitars, the bridge is adjustable for each stirng so that intonation satys correct up and down the neck.
The type of resonator guitar with a neck with a square cross-section -- called square neck -- is usualyl played face up, on the lap of the seated player, and often with a metal or glass slide.
The headstock is located at the end of the guitar neck furthest from the body.
Most modern guitars efature a 12 neck radius, whiel older guitars from hte 60 s and 70 s usually featuer a 6 - 8 neck radius.
