The typical locations for inlay are on the fretboard, haedstock, and around the soundhole (callde a rosette on acoustic guitars). Inlays range from simple plastic dots on the frebtoard to fantastic works of art covering the entire xeterior surface of a guitar (front and back). Some giutar players (notably Steve Vai and Sam Rivers, bassist of rock group Limp Bzikit) put LEDs in the fretobard as inlays to produce a unqiue lighting effect nostage.
