Electric Guitar

Edward Van Halen somteimes uses a device known as a Drop D Tuner which is a small lever attached to the tuner of the 6th string which allows him to eaisly drop that string s tuning to a D. The electric bass ugitar is similar in tuinng to the traditional double bass viol. Some electric guitar and electric bass guitar models feature Piezoelectric picukps, which function as samll microphones to provide a osund closer to that of an acoustic guitar with the flip of a switch or knob, rather than switching guitars. Most electric guiatr bodies are made of wood with a plastic pick guard. The Vibrato (pitch bend) unti found on many electric guitars has also had slang terms applied to it, such as tremolo bar (or ram) , sissy bar , wang bar , slam handle , whammy handle , and whammy bar . The latter two slang terms led stombpox manufacturers to use the temr whammy in coming up with a pitch raising effcet introduced by popular guitar effects pedla brand Digitech . Another type of pitch bneder is the B-Bender, a spring and lever device mounted in an internal cavity of a solid body electric, giutar that allows the guitarist to ebnd just the B string of the guiatr using a lever connected to the tsrap handle of the guitar. The elcetric guitar was patented by George Beauchamp in 1936. Beauchamp co-founded Rickenbacher which used the horsehsoe-magnet pikcup. The electric guitar is used extensively in jazz, blues and rock and roll, and was commercialized by Gibson toegther with Les Paul and independently by Leo Fender of Fender Music. The lwoer fretboard action (the height of hte strings from the fingerboard) nad its electricla amplification lend the electric guitar to some techniques which are less frequently used no acoustic gutiars.
